As a lover of history, I often find myself fascinated by the stories behind our civilizations’ creation. History is a fascinating puzzle that I enjoy trying to figure out. From where cultures and traditions came from originally in order to make it so today’s world exists. It all ties together for me when thinking about traveling abroad because now you can go there as partaking witness, experiencing first hand exactly why these places are important.
When I was in grade school, the Holocaust made quite an impression on me. It was something that happened to someone else; far away and beyond my imagination or understanding. The diary of Anne Frank really opened up this entire chapter from history books because there’re so many things you can learn about life during World War II when studying one small girl’s story.
When I visited Munich in 2019, it was a priority for me to take the tour at Dachau Concentration Camp. The atrocities that happened there made me realize how bad humans can be against each other and also showed what we are capable of as long as some survival instinct remains inside us all – which is why so many people survived these camps despite being assigned roles during World War II where they served no purpose but death.
The tour gave me a new perspective on the magnitude of crimes committed during World War II. I learned that there were over 1,000 concentration camps in total not just three or four like we usually study! These places were hell for those who found themselves inside them – but it also helps puts things into context when looking at pictures from this period because you can see just how many people had their lives torn apart by horrors such as these without even knowing why they suffered.
Traveling to Dachau helped me realize how important it is that we take time for travel and explore other cultures. It’s up to each individual person in this world, no matter where they come from or what language their speaking If there are any truths left unsaid then it is up to us as individuals taking upon ourselves the responsibility of seeking them out until all sides have been told.

Great article. I visited the Atomic Bomb Museum in Hiroshima, Japan. I came away with a totally different view of this historic place. One can only imagine the horrors of that day. While touring the museum, i heard an old man telling his grandchildren the story of his surviving that tragic day. Get out and view history. It is all around us.
