When I visited Markovic Winery, it was one of the best wineries that I have ever been to. To make things even better they are usually closed on Sundays and opened just for me so my group could get a tour through their beautiful facility while enjoying some rakija! When we arrived at first viewpoint overlooking valley below with magnificent mountain ranges all around; then met by owner himself who greeted us personally alongside his wife’s tradition shot glass every time someone new joins your Patio Area

The tour began with an enjoyable stroll through the orchard and vineyards. Mr. Markovic humbly showed off all aspects of his winery including how they process harvested grapes into wines for customers. Mr. Markovic’s story is one of hard work and entrepreneurship, but it also has a touch of divine inspiration in its inception. He told of how he went from a waiter in a restaurant, to becoming a business owner, to finally be called upon from God to make wine.

The best was indeed saved for last; it was time to taste some wine. With a variety of grapes from the orchard and cheeses, sausages, and crackers. We started off with an exciting Sauvignon Blanc which I though wasn’t bad at all, but there were more in store. I did not know what they had done differently but everything just seemed so good Next came one more white wine, and two reds: all great choices by themselves, but then after that we got my favorite, rose wines made exclusively using the pinot grigio process. The first time I tasted this rose wine, it was love at first sip. The sweet flavor filled my mouth and became more flavorful with every passing second until finally settling into an amazing aftertaste that left me wanting another drink straight away.

Visiting a great winery on Sunday is truly an experience of its own. The Markovic family made me feel welcomed from the moment that I arrived, and their beautiful vineyard offers some amazing views. The grapes are beautiful and so is their wine, which made it all worthwhile. I cannot wait until next time when we will get another taste of something special together with these wonderful people who invited us into their home as guests. I also look forward paying them another visit because every moment spent here feels like pure blissful perfection.
